the GAME of FATE
…a Vanquish creation
In the Game of Fate, what is may not be. Vanquish designed the game, which can accommodate two to twenty players as singles or in teams. Use it for events or to get together with pals when you need a break from the routine. All the tools will be featured on this website, and the Guild Hall is always available.
In the Game of Fate, you’ll go around the playing board gathering useful objects including Health Potions, Health Regeneration Food, Resurrection Scrolls, and Soul Gems. You may uncover treasure chests, complete quests, and become a vampire or werewolf. You will combat enemies and work together to defeat Trial Bosses. Stendaar can give you the Divine Blessing, which increases your attack power. Arkay can glance at you and give you a health bonus as you level up. You may also land on a FATE Stone, which could change the direction of the game for you, a teammate, or an opponent. With the possibility of death, being put into the Stocks, and FATE Stones, we say in the Game of Fate, “What is, may not be”.

TO PLAY THE GAME OF FATE
To play the GoF, you will need Discord, be at the Vanquish Guild Hall, and allocate 1.25 hours to 2.5 hours, pending on the number of participants and how well equipped each player is with maps and character sheet. To visit the Vanquish Guild Hall, there are two ways to get there.
- Press “G” in-game to open the Guild Menu and choose Vanquish. “About Us” is located beneath the MOTD, where we share the events of each week. A YELLOW link that will take you straight to the Guild Hall may be found here.
- The other option is to bring up the guild roster, sort by rank, right click on @vanquishguild (3rd down) and travel to their primary residence.
Character Sheet
One player known as “The Scribe” uses the Character Sheet to record all of the quests, items, and perks the players have obtained throughout the game. The Scribe’s inventory always contains a Soul Gem and they have a +1 Damage Modifier to assaults because of their dedication. There are two distinct Character Sheets available: an interactive one that you can use in your browser, and a printable version that you can use to record with a pen or pencil. Each has advantages and disadvantages.
PRINTABLE VERSION: Printing two sheets of normal 8.5 x 11 paper, or two sides. The quickest way to list items, mark quests, and so on appears to be with the printable version. The second page (sometimes known as the reverse) has plenty of space and graphs to record fights, but you will need to perform some math. Hitpoints for both players and enemies are shown for reference.
INTERACTIVE SHEET: Any browser can open and use the interactive sheet. Every item, quest, and buff has a button or dropdown indicator next to it. The key advantage is that whenever a player consumes a Soul Gem or Health Potion, the combat will automatically update their remaining hitpoints and have a “clear” function. The interactive sheet’s drawback is that, after making modifications, you actually need a second monitor to make sure you’re back in the game window.
MAPS and Essential Housing Tools
Playing the Game of Fate requires the use of maps. We advise each player to select one of the options we’ve put together for them in order to play more quickly. Three choices are available.
FULL IMAGE – This shows you the game map in full color and explains each stone a player lands on if you have a second monitor or other viewing choices like a tablet. When utilizing a PC, we discovered that downloading the.png file and double-clicking it to open it in Windows’ default picture preview is simpler. Here, you can move around using the hand tool. Scroll bars are required when opening in a browser, which is more difficult.
PRINTABLE MAP – The printable version is really useful, particularly if you intend to keep it around. The map, which comes with MAP KEYS, has been significantly shrunk to fit on four normal 8.5 x 11 sheets of paper. Every page was designed with margins in mind, along with guidelines on which side to cut and which not to cut when piecing together. Just four sides will need to be trimmed in total.
EHT – In the event that you lack a second monitor or printer, we provide the option to utilize the Essential Housing Toools addition. With the community, the Guild Hall has shared FX Effects that display the specifics of every move square. WARNING: There are 100 FX effects in the Guild Hall; it may take some minutes for them to load and will need a lot of resources in terms of frame rates. This method involves opening the “EssentialHousingCommunityUpdate.exe” executable file in your documents \\ Elder Scrolls Online ➞ live ➞ AddOns \ EssentialHousingTools \ EssentialHousingCommunity folder. If you are in the game, type /reloadui after it is done to view the results in the Guild Hall.HINT: You can set a hotkey in commands/addon keybinds to quickly turn ON/OFF FX effects.
Discord
Discord is required in order to play. In the “COMMUNITY” section of discord, you will find a channel “# game-of-fate”. Here is where the magic begins and how you start your adventure. We will cover the dice and interaction later in this guide but for now, all Vanquish members have access.
BEFORE YOU START
It’s time to get started now that you have the necessary tools for the game: the character sheet, maps, presence in the Guild Hall, and use of Discord. Selecting the Scribe is the first thing you must do, whether you’re playing with a group or just yourself and another player.
Appoint a Scribe
As discussed earlier, the Scribe is in charge of inventory, quests, buffs, and debuffs. To compensate, they do start off with a +1 Damage Modifier to all attacks along wtih a Soul Gem in their inventory. To maintain fair play, the Scribes’ word is absolute gold that cannot be contested.
Unless the group chooses otherwise, scribes are also in command of the monster attacks against players.
Individual or in Teams
Playing individually, everyone it out for themselves. You may never use the resurrection scrolls unless your heart bleeds enough for the fallen opponent. You will have no regrets when swapping yourself with the player that is further ahead. And, that werewolf ahead of you, you just had them retreat 4 spots to land on a Guard space.
As Teams, you work together, share inventory, obtain specific buffs as a Team, and do everything possible to send an opposing team into Oblivion. Or fight that Boss they just finished and now, their inventory is empty of potions.
Playing as an individual will greatly extend the takes to finish the game, therefore we recommend only up to six (6). Any additional players, we highly recommend using the Team format.
Whether playing individually, or with Teams, the game ends when 49% the amount of Players/Teams cross the Finish Line. See chart below for breakdown.
No. of Players | Game Ends After: | No. of Players | Game Ends After: |
---|---|---|---|
2 | 1 player finishes | 7 (longer game) | 3 players finish |
3 | 1 player finishes | 8 (longer game) | 4 players finish |
4 | 2 players finish | 9 (longer game) | 4 players finish |
5 | 2 players finish | 10 (longer game) | 5 players finish |
6 | 3 players finish |
As Teams, you look out for your ally. If your teamate falls in combat, you can resurrect them if you have the scroll or spell. You can potentially chain yourself to their position, work together to send another team backwards, and use the game board mechanics to ensure victory. Playing as teams, game play is sped up with only half, or just over half, of your team needing to cross the finish line to win but you split the winnings. This is the breakdown according to the number of players:
No. of Players | Teams | Companion Use: | Game Ends After: |
---|---|---|---|
6 | 3 teams of 2 | n/a | 1 Team finsihes |
7 | 4 teams of 2* | * = 1 player w/ companion | 1 Team finsihes |
8 | 4 teams of 2 | n/a | 2 Teams finish |
9 | 5 teams of 2* | * = 1 player w/ companion | 2 Teams finish |
10 | 5 teams of 2 | n/a | 2 Teams finish |
11 | 6 teams of 2* | * = 1 player w/ companion | 3 Teams finish |
12 | 6 teams of 2 | n/a | 3 Teams finish |
13 | 7 teams of 2* | * = 1 player w/ companion | 3 Teams finish |
14 | 7 teams of 2 | n/a | 3 Teams finish |
15 | 8 teams of 2* | * = 1 player w/ companion | 4 Teams finish |
16 | 8 teams of 2 | n/a | 4 Teams finish |
17 | 9 teams of 2* | * = 1 player w/ companion | 4 Teams finish |
18 | 9 teams of 2 | n/a | 4 Teams finish |
19 | 10 teams of 2* | 1 player w/ companion | 5 Teams finish |
20 | 10 teams of 2 | n/a | 5 Teams finish |
Who Goes First?
In the discord channel dedicated to the game, each player will type in /r 1d100. First to roll is the player with the highest number, followed by second, and so on. When playing by teams, only ONE person from each team will roll with the ROLL counting for the entire team. Example: In a 2 person team, if one rolls the highest number, then Player 1 will go first, and then Player 2 will go second of that team. Then the second highest team, third highest, etc.
GAME DETAILS
The Dice
The dice used for the Game of Fate are your standard DnD polyhedral dice; d4,d6, d10, d12, and d20. In the dedicated discord channel, you will see the following:

Each ‘button’ has a specific function to guide you through the game.
General Roll / Attack
ROLL: How you move around the game board. Used by those that are not Plagued or a Vampire.
MOVE (Vamp): Used by Vampires ONLY and removes the ablity to roll a 1, 2, or 3.
MOVE (Plauged): Used by those who were touched by FATE that removes the abilty to roll a 7 or 8.
FATE: Landing on a FATE STONE, you draw this card. Currently 16 different FATES can play out.
PORTAL: When touched by FATE, you may be required to PORTAL to a different position on the board. 4 possible locations.
ATTACK: Your standard DMG to enemies. 1d8
(-1): If cursed without any blessings, this will lower your attack modifier.
(+1): +1 DMG Modifier when landing on a Blessing of the Divine.
(+2): +2 DMG Modifier when landing on a Blessing of the Divine.
(+3): +3 DMG Modifier when chosen by FATE, or has Werewolf status effect.
Monsters and Bosses
You’ll note that some of the buttons in the monster area are blue, while some are green. The ones listed in Blue, have a base Fire attack which is deadly to Vampires. If a Vampire comes across a Flame Atronach, the SCRIBE would click “Flame Atronach +FIRE DMG” to attack. If NOT a vampire, the SCRIBE would click “Flame Atronach + Roll” for the attack. The maximum amount of damage that each monster is capable of dealing in a turn is indicated on its label along with its HitPoints.
Grabbing Loot
When opening a Treasure Chest, or you are the proud victor of eliminating that Mudcrab, you would roll the “LOOT” button at the bottom. There is an equal chance that loot will drop a Sould Gem, Potion, Health Regen Food, or nothing at all.
Items and Combat
You can find items in the Game of Fate that will aid you or a friend in getting through. An unprepared adventurer may find it difficult to defeat some of the more formidable monsters, which could result in an unfortunate death. Among these are:
- Health Potions: Fully Restores your HitPoints to Max. Used in combat and must be used BEFORE your attack.
- Crusty Bread and/or Cheese: Restores 20 HitPoints. Used in combat and must be used BEFORE your attack.
- Resurrection Scroll: Use to bring a player back to life with Full HP. Absorbs your turn.
- Soul Gem: Used in combat to bring YOU to life with Full HP. Using a Soul Gem counts as your turn. In the meantime, if in solo combat, the boss will restore 10 HitPoints.
Ten fights are conceivable in total; nine are indicated on the game board and one is determined by FATE. The enemy always launches the initial attack when landing on a fight square. They were aware that you were approaching. Once a fight has been initiated, the SCRIBE will roll the dice for the monster. Monsters and Bosses cannot heal unless in solo combat where the player dies for 1 round. Once the Monster attack, it is now the players turn. You utilize the ATTACK Button if you do not have any DMG modifiers enabled. Make appropriate use of the appropriate to reflect any DMG modifiers you may have. The battle lasts the whole round and ends when the monster or the player is eliminated.
Status Effects
In the Game of Fate you have a chance to be cursed by Vampirism or with Werewolf. On that hex, you do have the choice to either be Cleansed or remain with that curse. A player cannot be both at the same time. Also note that once you are cursed, the ONLY way to cleanse is the very slim chance of landing on that hex again. Even though they are both regarded as curses, they each provide a sizable boost, making it a worthwhile choice to consider.
VAMPIRISM (Noxiphilic Sanguivoria): With the curse you have incredible speed and unable to ROLL a 1, 2, or 3 on your movement dice. However, any FIRE ENEMY does a +3 DAMAGE PER TURN. There are a total of 6 possible Fire Enemy Fights; 5 on the board and 1 drawn by FATE.
WEREWOLF (Lycanthopy): With this curse, you have incredible strength giving you a +3 DAMAGE MODIFIER to all attacks. But then, landing on ANY Guard locaiton will automatically place you in the STOCKS, UNLESS you have a Clemency Card. You cannot ROLL to escape and being blessed by the Amulet of Kings, doesn’t help.
Death
Death may happen if FATE wields it. With Death, certain conditions may apply.
If you have a SOUL GEM in your inventory, you may resurrect on your NEXT TURN using your turn in the process. If you died in solo combat, the monster/boss will regenerate 10 hitpoints. If you died in a group battle, as long as the boss is still taking damage, you will continue the fight once rez’d. If you do not use the Soul Gem, exampe: wait until the Dragon is near death, you will automatically be ported to the nearest, behind Portal. Dying to Slaugherfish will automatically use your SOUL GEM and place you at the BLUE PORTAL GATE.
Ressurection may come from two sources; a Player using a Scroll or a Player that has learned the spell. Like the Soul Gem, once you are resurrected, that turn is absorbed. You cannot use a Resurrection Scroll on yourself. If you die to slaughtefish, you cannot be resurrected. If you do not have a Soul Gem, you will automatically teleport to the GREEN PORTAL GATE.
RESPAWN GATES: Throughout the game board you will find 4 colored gates; red, green, blue, and yellow. If the options of using a Soul Gem or being Resurrected is void, you will respawn at the NEAREST BEHIND Portal Gate. Porting to a GATE uses your turn.
WINNING THE GAME
The winner is the first player to cross the finish line. It is not necessary to roll a precise number in order to land on Finish. Because of Quests having potential pay outs, and pending on the quantity of players, there must be an “END”, or “CUTOFF”. We covered this when discussing Individual or Teams. See the link if you need a refresher.
Winnings
The goal of the game is to have fun while earning bragging rights. comparable to “In Your Face!” Because no one is obligated to provide prizes, anyone who just wants to play can do so. For guild events the game is structured to pay out to the top 5 places by default. Those places are:

If your team has won, the teammates still on the board continue to play through until the “Game Ends After” quota is met. Teammates have a chance to increase the overall winning by placing in the top 5.
Though the top 5 are paid out, it is only paid out in 5 positions pending on the quantity of players. Otherwise, if the players equal to that of 6, only the top 2 are paid. See Individual or Teams. For the the games that have 15 players or more, the game ends later to allow those with quests to reach the finish line before time runs out.
Thank you for playing the Game of Fate.
