Vanquish revisited our long lasting tradition with NAKED TRIALS this past Saturday. In the past, these brave warriors have succeeded in Sanctum Ophidia, Arethian Archive and even the Hel Ra Citadel. This time, they faced Rakhat at the Maw of Lorkhaj in their skivvies!
So how do the naked trials work? Simple. No armor. That means no pants, no chest, no gloves, waist, feet, helm or shoulders. And if you find anything on the way, leave it on the ground. You are permitted, however, weapons and jewelry. This led to some strategic planning. Do you wear a 3 piece like Willpower and then a 2 set? Do you grab something for sustain? Damage?
Getting to the first boss was like walking through shallow waters and seeing tadpoles run from the ripples of your feet. Everyone knew the order and were on point with execution. Tadpoles? You get the idea. Facing Zhaj’hassa the Forgotten’s, placing the five pillars aided in our defense. While protected, the team didn’t lose focus on continuing throwing mudpies at his face and sending the donkeys back to oblivion. In his last hopes, throwing up another shield on himself did little as he saw his demise.
With resources an issue, going against the five waves of ogres, renderers, archers, donkeys, sun eaters, shamans and the like, was potentially going to cause some headaches. Commands were given, enemies were places, and one by one they started to fall. When the fifth wave hit, battered and drained, the team saw the light behind the gates signifying they were near the end. With new hope, NO NO NO, don’t say it.. with New Hope, it renewed their strength and the pearly gates opened for them all.
The twins, Vashai and S’kinrai, weren’t going down as easy. The Vanquish team busted down their door interrupting their little tea party and they weren’t all too happy about it. With Kildaan grabbing Vashai and Brozpeh tanking S’kinrai, we wen’t through a couple different strategies before finding one that worked. Crying for help, the two twins summoned their mini-me’s to aid them. With yanks and chains, they were pulled into a mass of area destruction. After three shouts and trying to confuse the destined team, ‘foreskin’ lay on the ground clutching his innards leaving Vashai alone against twelve raiders. As a last attempt to revenge his brother, he ran to the center preparing for his ultimate weapon. He fell before he released his final scream.
Seeing how far Vanquish has come, Rakhat was pissed. His best generals all beaten by a bunch of naked little people wearing only a tabard. With strategies discussed, runners prepared, the fight was on! Around the clock the team continued to give it all they had to push Rakhat into his final phase. Thrice, runners departed to find the hidden monks. Four times did the Hulk come to his aid. Falling short, Rakhat jumped to the back and Vanquish spread to their base for the Lunar Buffs. Beams flared from the inside, arrows flew, lightning sparked from all directions. When the buffs suddenly diminished, Kildaan quickly grabbed the attention of Rakhat while Brozeph rounded up the remainder of the last of the cowboys in perfect fashion. One down. Two. Three. Four, the summoned warriors fell. Rakhat, with one last effort jumped to the center of the arena throwing everything he had. And then, with a final scream, he fell.
