8th WBM is a success!

Published: Category:NewsWritten by: Duck17

Last Saturday, the 30th of August at 11:00am EST, we officially kicked off the 8th Annual World Boss Marathon congregating at the Daggerfall wayshrine.  With cold pizzas in the fridge, plenty of drinks; coffee, water and alcohol, and a fresh set of underwear, we knew the objective: To eliminate Tamriel’s 204 World Bosses along with their quests.

As far as we know, we are the ONLY guild in ESO that is crazy enough to pull off this endeavor.  We saw reports of some starting and end after 5 hours.  We have seen some stretch it out over a few days and still not continue.  ONLY Vanquish is crazy enough to put those massage chairs under our butts for an event that is over 19 hours long!  This weekend we fulfilled our task in 19 HOURS and 24 MINUTES.   That is 6 full Taylor Swifts ERA’s Concert Tour!  Just for reference. lol

As tradition we hopped over the wall in Daggerfall, slid down the mountain to the Western Overlook and took down the Limbscather to officially kick off the event.    With our maps in hand, locations pinned for travel route, we do our best to make each year efficient and time effective.  Here is an example of how each zone is figured:

The WBM was scheduled to complete 3 zones that were organized based on alliance then have a 10 minute break.  Do another three zone, break, another three,… you get the idea.  With the short breaks, that is where the pizza in the fridge comes into play, the vegetable trays, cheese trays, snacks, coffee, energy drinks, and alcohol come into play!  PLUS, everyone is encouraged to get up and walk around.

Throughout the day, evening, late night, and into the morning, we had almost 2 full groups 100% of the time.  The WBM is a come-n-go event and open to any Vanquish family member whether you attend for just a few lands or try to make it the entire event.  On the very last leg, we dropped to our lowest participants with 19.  A nice turnout overall!  Over 40 Vanquish peeps participated in the event with 9 of those there from start to finish.  Those with the Elite status were: (in alphabetical order)

Throughout we shared plenty of laughs and conversations.   We learned.  We played.  We now understand the dreams of some NPC’s as well as some guildmates.  We now know that the city of Solitude is in the shape of a penis.  The world boss in Blackreach Caverns is in a shape of a penis, though debated by mostly female players.  We have heard and forgotten more dad-jokes than we thought we knew.  We named mounts, we know Xeker took Morri’s energy drinks and filled them with water, and how Tavi suddenly realizes that she’s too old for this shit!   LOL   And through it all, we encouraged one another to keep going.

Our final land, as with tradition, was Vvrandenfell.  The DLC where the WBM was born.  And now, the land that marks the end of the event.  Of the two groups we were only able to get 5 of the quests but we didn’t let that stop us.  The goal was 204 world bosses.  Not 203.  “The Nix Ox” wanted to evade us. It wanted to end our long adventure on a sour note.  IT was so wrong.  With determination, as with the very first boss, we rushed into that open land and beat it like a shitty pony.  Worse.  Like a dirty elf!  Damn dirty elves.  Objective 204 COMPLETE!

We do want to give out a few special Thank You’s to a few individuals that helped make this happen.   First, to all Vanquish members that made this event run so well.  With everyone sticking with crown, not having pets of any kind up, keeping with Light and Heavy attacks, exercising patience for nearly 19.5 hours!  We made a path, a destination, but it was all of you that exercised it beautifully.  So, thank you Vanquish, from us.

Second, to Shell and Astoria who constantly changed groups to share the quests with the DLC’s.  Going back and forth between groups was a huge help and very much appreciated.

And to those that helped with donations; Taeve, Duck, DeSyreni and Shell.  We gave out so many goodies during the event… geesh.  But we couldn’t have done it without your help.

Thank you ALL for such a wonderful, memorable time!

Below are some comments that were made from our news thread and discord:

“We had a blast this year. We even learned some new things while killing World Bosses. The last 2 hours was rough. We were so tired and ready to hit the bed. We even had a surprise visit from @Nuke that joined us at the end of it. Congrats and Thanks everyone that stuck with us till the end.” ~ Shell

“I think at around the 80% done mark, Sav commented that we had yet to dip below 19 attendees.  That’s outstanding!  Thanks Sav and Duck!” ~ Fripplethorn

“Congratulations to all of you who made this possible!” ~Chris

“This was a lot of fun. Thanks to Duck, Sav, and all the people who donated towards the prizes.” ~ Creakinator

“We made it with 9 the whole time, and think we ended with 13 total” ~ Gumorf

“Such good times yesterday! Thank you to all who participated and stopped by, even if only for a few runs. An especially big thank you to Duck and Sav and @davedek  who patiently taxied my drunk ass all over Tamriel.” ~Whisky_Jak

YOLO!!!! Hell YEAH, we had a great time!! Thank you all for coming out and spending your entire Saturday, and Sunday morning with us. This is my favorite event of the year. I love getting to spend quality time with everyone. This event continues to forge friendships, and create bonds within the guild every year. I know it is a hard go from start to finish but I love this event! Thank you to all that came out, whether for a few minutes or the entire 19 hours and 24 minutes. Can't wait to see you all again next year!
